The Level of availability of Scientific Investigation Skills among the Students of the Scientific Departments at Saber College of Sciences and Education, Lahej University
Abstract
The aim of the current research is to identify the level of scientific inquiry skills among students of the scientific educational departments at Sabr Faculty of Sciences and Education, University of Lahej, compared to the proficiency level (75%) for acquiring these skills. The study also aimed to identify the effect of the variables (specialization and gender) and the interaction between them on the level of scientific inquiry skills among students. The research sample consisted of (67) male and female students, who are all third-level students in the scientific departments (Mathematics - Physics - Chemistry - Biology). For this purpose, the researchers prepared a test consisting of (32) items to measure the level of scientific inquiry skills in (11) main skills: Observation, inference, measurement, classification, communication, prediction, data interpretation, controlling variables, experimenting and formulating hypotheses, and operational definition. The research results showed a general weakness in the level of scientific inquiry skills among students of these scientific departments, as the average availability of scientific inquiry skills among the research sample reached 36.3, which is a weak result, and this result is much lower than the (75%) as a proficiency level for the availability of scientific inquiry skills. The research results also showed no statistically significant differences between the scores of scientific inquiry skills among students due to the variables of specialization and gender. The study concluded that there is no effect of the interaction between the specialization and gender variables on the level of scientific inquiry skills among students of the scientific departments at Sabr Faculty of Sciences and Education
